Easy Guide to Check Audi Key Type (5C or 5D) via Key Shell

Want to tell whether your Audi key is 5C or 5D? Follow these steps based on the key shell design.

Step 1: Gently remove the key shell.

Step 2: Examine the interior surface of the shell.

Step 3: Count the lines of symbols:

5C Key → Has 3 lines of symbols.

5D Key → Has 4 lines of symbols (encrypted type).

Important reminders:

Duplicating a 5D key requires the original key.

If your 5D key includes UWB, a high-version original key is needed for copying.

This guide is only suitable for Audi 5C/5D vehicles. It may not apply to VW 5C/5D vehicles.

For precise identification, use an OBD tool like Keydiy KD-X4 5-in-1 key programmer to check the key chip type and key status directly.
